Gree Air Conditioners Error Codes


The fault code is deduced from the number of times the green LED flashes, blocking unit operation.
E1: Refrigerant system high pressure protection
E2: Anti-freezing protection
E4: Compressor exhaust high temperature protection
E5: AC over-current protection
E6: Communication failure between indoor unit and outdoor unit
E8: Anti-high temperature protection
H6: No feedback of indoor fan motor
C5: Jumper cap malfunction protection
F0: Refrigerant Leakage Protection
F1: Indoor ambient sensor open or short circuit
F2: Indoor tube sensor open or short circuit
F3: Outdoor ambient sensor open or short circuit
F4: Outdoor tube sensor open or short circuit
F5: Exhaust sensor open or short circuit
F6: Over load limit / drop frequency
F8: Over current limit / drop frequency
F9: High exhaust temperature limit / drop frequency
PH: Over voltage protection for PN
U5: AC current detect circuit malfunction
U4: Compressor reverse protection
P5: Over compressor phase current protection
b5: Inlet tube sensor malfunction

P6: Communication failure between main board and driver board
PU: Capacitor charge malfunction
P7: IPM sensor circuit malfunction
P8: IPM high temperature protection
U3: PN voltage drop protection
PL: Low PN voltage protection
Pc: Current detect circuit malfunction or Current sensor malfunction
Ld: Compressor loss of phase protection
LE: Compressor locked rotary protection
EU: IPM over temperature limit / drop frequency
U7: 4-way valve reversal abnormal
U8: Disconnection of the exhaust temperature sensor
U9: AC power zero voltage detect error
FA: Over tube temperature drop frequency
FH: Anti-freezing limit / drop frequency
oE: PFC module temperature protection/PFC module sensor malfunction
C5: Malfunction of connector jumper: Check if the connector jumper contacts properly. If the PCB is to be replaced, please take off the old for the new PCB
F1: Malfunction of indoor ambient temperature sensor:Check if indoor room temperature sensor is connected properly.
F2: Malfunction of evaporator temperature sensor:Check if the evaporator temperature is connected properly.
H1: Defrosting:It is normal
H6: Indoor fan block:Check if terminal of the indoor motor is connected properly. Replace the fan motor or the indoor board if disabled.
  1. The wiring terminal between indoor evaporator temperature sensor and controller is loosened or poorly contacted;
  2. There’s short circuit due to the trip-over of the parts on controller;
  3. Indoor evaporator temperature sensor is damaged
  4. Main board is broken. 

Gree AC Error Code: F3
Malfunction Name: Outdoor ambient temperature sensor is open/ short-circuited
A/C Status: The unit will stop operation as it reaches the temperature point. During cooling and drying operation, compressor stops and indoor fan operates; During heating operation, the complete unit stops operation.
Possible Causes:
  1. The wiring terminal between outdoor ambient temperature sensor and controller is loosened or poorly contacted;
  2. There’s short circuit due to the trip-over of the parts on controller;
  3. Outdoor ambient temperature sensor is damaged
  4. Main board is broken.
Gree AC Error Code: H6 
Malfunction Name: PG motor (indoor fan motor) does not operate
A/C Status: Indoor fan, outdoor fan, compressor and electric heat tube stop operation. 2 minutes later, 4-way valve stops; horizontal louver stops at the current position.
Possible Causes:
  1. The feedback terminal of PG motor is not connected tightly.
  2. The control terminal of PG motor is not connected tightly.
  3. Fan blade rotates roughly due to improper installation.
  4. Motor is not installed properly and tightly.
  5. Motor is damaged.
  6. Controller is damaged
Gree AC Error Code: C5
Malfunction Name: Malfunction protection of jumper cap
A/C Status: Operation of remote controller or control panel is available, but the unit won’t act
Possible Causes: There’s no jumper cap on the controller. Jumper cap is not inserted properly and tightly. Jumper cap is damaged. Controller is damaged.
Gree AC Error Code: U8 
Malfunction Name: PG motor (indoor fan) circuit malfunction by zero cross detection
A/C Status: Operation of remote controller or control panel is available, but the unit won’t act
Possible Causes: Controller is damaged.
Gree AC Error Code: E2 
Malfunction Name: Antifreezing protection
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor and outdoor fan stop while indoor fan operates.
Possible Causes:
  1. Poor air-return in indoor unit;
  2. Abnormal fan speed;
  3. Dirty evaporator;
  4. System is normal but the indoor tube temperature sensor is abnormal, or the tube temperature sensor is not connected well.
Gree AC Error Code: E3
Malfunction Name: Low pressure protection of compressor
A/C Status: The complete unit stops
Possible Causes: 
  1. The main board and display panel are not connected well.
  2. The LPP terminal on the main board is not connected well, with the high pressure switch on the complete unit.
  3. The wiring of the high pressure switch is loosened. High pressure switch is damaged or poorly contacted.
  4. Insufficient or leaking out refrigerant.
  5. The LPP input is at high level.
Gree AC Error Code:  E1
Malfunction Name: High pressure protection of system
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, except indoor fan operates, all loads stop operation. During heating operation, the complete unit stops
Possible Causes:
  1. Refrigerant was superabundant;
  2. Poor heat exchange (including filth blockage of heat exchanger and bad radiating environment ); Ambient temperature is too high.
Gree AC Error Code:  E4
Malfunction Name: High discharge temperature protection of compressor
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor and outdoor fan stop while indoor fan operates. During heating operation, all loads stop
Possible Causes: Please refer to the malfunction analysis (discharge protection, overload).
Gree AC Error Code: E5  
Malfunction Name: Overcurrent protection
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor and outdoor fan stop while indoor fan operates. During heating operation, all loads stop
Possible Causes:
  1. Supply voltage is unstable;
  2. Supply voltage is too low and load is too high;
  3. Evaporator is dirty.
Gree AC Error Code: E6
Malfunction Name: Communication Malfunction
A/C Status: During cooling operation, compressor stops while indoor fan motor operates. During heating operation, the complete unit stops
Possible Causes: Refer to the corresponding malfunction analysis
Gree AC Error Code: E8
Malfunction Name: High temperature resistant protection
A/C Status: During cooling operation: compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate. During heating operation, the complete unit stops
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (overload, high temperature resistant)
Gree AC Error Code: F4
Malfunction Name: Outdoor condenser temperature sensor is open/short circuited
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor stops while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: Outdoor temperature sensor hasn’t been connected well or is damaged. Please check it by referring to the resistance table for temperature sensor)
Gree AC Error Code: F5
Malfunction Name: Outdoor discharge temperature sensor is open/short circuited
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will sop after operating for about 3 mins, while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop after operating for about 3 mins
Possible Causes:
  1. Outdoor temperature sensor hasn’t been connected well or is damaged. Please check it by referring to the resistance table for temperature sensor)
  2. 2.The head of temperature sensor hasn’t been inserted into the copper tube
Gree AC Error Code: F6  
Malfunction Name: Limit/decrease frequency due to overload
A/C Status: All loads operate normally, while operation frequency for compressor is decreased
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (overload, high temperature resistant)
Gree AC Error Code: F8
Malfunction Name: Decrease frequency due to overcurrent
A/C Status: All loads operate normally, while operation frequency for compressor is decreased
Possible Causes: The input supply voltage is too low; System pressure is too high and overload
Gree AC Error Code: F9  
Malfunction Name: Decrease frequency due to high air discharge
A/C Status: All loads operate normally, while operation frequency for compressor is decreased
Possible Causes:
  1. Overload or temperature is too high;
  2. Refrigerant is insufficient;
  3. Malfunction of electric expansion valve (EKV)
Gree AC Error Code:  PH
Malfunction Name: Voltage for DC bus-bar is too high
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes:
  1. Measure the voltage of position L and N on wiring board (XT), if the voltage is higher than 265VAC, turn on the unit after the supply voltage is increased to the normal range.
  2. If the AC input is normal, measure the voltage of electrolytic capacitor C on control panel (AP1), if it’s normal, there’s malfunction for the circuit, please replace the control panel (AP1)
Gree AC Error Code:  U5
Malfunction Name: Malfunction of complete unit’s current detection
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, the compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operating, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: There’s circuit malfunction on outdoor unit’s control panel AP1, please replace the outdoor unit’s control panel AP1.
Gree AC Error Code: P5  
Malfunction Name: Overcurrent protection of phase current for compressor
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (IPM protection, loss of synchronism protection and overcurrent protection of phase current for compressor.
Gree AC Error Code: H1 
Malfunction Name: Defrosting
A/C Status: Defrosting will occur in heating mode. Compressor will operate while indoor fan will stop operation. 
Possible Causes: It’s the normal state
Gree AC Error Code: H2
Malfunction Name: Static dedusting protection
Gree AC Error Code: H3
Malfunction Name: Overload protection for compressor
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation
Possible Causes:
  1. Wiring terminal OVC-COMP is loosened. In normal state, the resistance for this terminal should be less than 1 ohm.
  2. Refer to the malfunction analysis ( discharge protection, overload)
Gree AC Error Code:  H4
Malfunction Name: System is abnormal
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (overload, high temperature resistant)
Gree AC Error Code: H5  
Malfunction Name: IPM protection
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (IPM protection, loss of synchronism protection and overcurrent protection of phase current for compressor.
Gree AC Error Code: HC
Malfunction Name: PFC protection
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis
Gree AC Error Code: H7  
Malfunction Name: Desynchronizing of compressor
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (IPM protection, loss of synchronism protection and overcurrent protection of phase current for compressor.
Gree AC Error Code: H0  
Malfunction Name: Decrease frequency due to high temperature resistant during heating operation
A/C Status: All loads operate normally, while operation frequency for compressor is decreased
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis (overload, high temperature resistant)
Gree AC Error Code: Lc  
Malfunction Name: Failure start-up
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation
Possible Causes: Refer to the malfunction analysis
Gree AC Error Code: U1  
Malfunction Name: Malfunction of phase current detection circuit for compressor
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes: Replace outdoor control panel AP1
Gree AC Error Code: EE 
Malfunction Name: EEPROM malfunction
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes: Replace outdoor control panel AP1
Gree AC Error Code: PU  
Malfunction Name: Charging malfunction of capacitor
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes: Refer to the part three—charging malfunction analysis of capacitor
Gree AC Error Code: P7
Malfunction Name: Malfunction of module temperature sensor circuit
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes: Replace outdoor control panel AP1
Gree AC Error Code: P8  
Malfunction Name: Module high temperature protection
A/C Status: During cooling operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes: After the complete unit is de-energized for 20mins, check whether the thermal grease on IPM Module of outdoor control panel AP1 is sufficient and whether the radiator is inserted tightly. If it’s no use, please replace control panel AP1.
Gree AC Error Code: U3
Malfunction Name: Malfunction of voltage dropping for DC bus-bar
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes: Supply voltage is unstable
Gree AC Error Code: PL 
Malfunction Name: Voltage of DC bus-bar is too low
A/C Status: During cooling and drying operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; During heating operation, the complete unit will stop
Possible Causes:
  1. Measure the voltage of position L and N on wiring board (XT), if the voltage is higher than 150VAC, turn on the unit after the supply voltage is increased to the normal range.
  2. If the AC input is normal, measure the voltage of electrolytic capacitor C on control panel (AP1), if it’s normal, there’s malfunction for the circuit, please replace the control panel (AP1)
Gree AC Error Code: EU  
Malfunction Name: Limit/decrease frequency due to high temperature of module
A/C Status: All loads operate normally, while operation frequency for compressor is decreased
Possible Causes: Discharging after the complete unit is de-energized for 20mins, check whether the thermal grease on IPM Module of outdoor control panel AP1 is sufficient and whether the radiator is inserted tightly. If it’s no use, please replace control panel AP1.
Gree AC Error Code: U7  
Malfunction Name: The four-way valve is abnormal 
A/C Status: If this malfunction occurs during heating operation, the complete unit will stop operation
Possible Causes:
  1. Supply voltage is lower than AC175V;
  2. Wiring terminal 4V is loosened or broken;
  3. 4V is damaged, please replace 4V
Gree AC Error Code: U9
Malfunction Name: Zero- crossing malfunction of outdoor unit
A/C Status: During cooling operation, compressor will stop while indoor fan will operate; during heating, the complete unit will stop operation.
Possible Causes: Replace outdoor control panel AP1
Gree AC Error Code: FH 
Malfunction Name: Limit/decrease frequency due to antifreezing
A/C Status: All loads operate normally, while operation frequency for compressor is decreased
Possible Causes: Poor air-return in indoor unit or fan speed is too low
